Assistant Accountant General
JOB DETAILS
Job Title: Assistant Accountant General
Supervisor/Manager Title: Deputy Accountant General
MDA: Accountant General’s Department
Unit/Division/Directorate: Job Summary
Grade: 11
The jobholder is responsible for assisting in formulating policies and facilitating the daily operations of the Department as well as supervising the activities of the following units:
• Payroll and severance benefits • Stores & records • Monitoring and evaluation • Stores control • Treasury & other government accounts • Financial management & accounts and • Recurrent and development expenditure

Supervise staff of the various operational units to ensure daily activities are efficiently carried

out.
Co-sign cheques for personnel emoluments and goods and services for payments on a daily
30%
basis.
Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliation reports to ensure internal controls and cash
5%
books submitted are in agreement with bank statements.
Review payment vouchers to ensure transactions are in line with government financial
10%
regulations.
Co-sign withdrawal applications with the Ministry of Finance for donor funded projects for
10%
effective compliance with the credit agreements.
Formulate fiscal and operational policies for approval by management of Accountant
5%
General’s Department.

Occasional duties The jobholder may be required to:
• Attend workshops, seminars, meetings, conferences, etc. • Perform any other official duty assigned Judgement and Decision-Making The jobholder makes administrative and operational decisions. He also gives technical and professional recommendations on fiscal related matters. Educational Requirements A Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting, Economics or other related field plus a full professional accounting qualification from an accredited institution Related Job Experience A minimum of eight (8) years of experience with three (3) years in a supervisory role Competencies/skills • Computer skills • Oral and written communication skills • Presentation skills • Interpersonal skills • Planning & organizing skills • People management skills • Analytical skills Work environment The job is mostly an office-based role with minor hazards and moderate exposure to physical activities such as prolonged use of the computer. There is infrequent requirement to make an early start or late finish as well as work on weekends.
