* POLS majors may satisfy Math/Reasoning core with POLS 3312 or POLS 3316, which will also count toward the POLS major requirements. However, note the course will count for a total of three credits towards the 120 needed for the degree.
* POLS majors may satisfy the Language, Philosophy and Culture core requirement with POLS 3340, 3342, or 4343, any of which will also count as an advanced elective in the major. However, note the course will only count for a total of three credits towards the 120 needed for the degree
* POLS majors may satisfy the Creative Arts requirement with POLS 2346, which will also count as a lower division elective in the major. However, note the course will only count for a total of three credits towards the 120 needed for the degree.
* POLS majors may satisfy the core curriculum requirement of three hours of Writing in the Disciplines with any of the Political Theory courses. Again, note that the course will only count for a total of three credits towards the 120 needed for the degree.
* Candidates for any Bachelor of Science degree must complete at least 12 semester hours (including core hours) in the formal sciences, i.e. mathematics, computer science, formal logic, or statistics, AT LEAST SIX SEMESTER HOURS OF WHICH MUST BE IN MATHEMATICS. Courses applied to this requirement must either be core approved mathematics or math/reasoning courses or have as prerequisites at least six hours of such courses.
*The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) requires all majors to take 6 semester hours of courses from two different fields of study in CLASS. These courses must be:
i. Outside the major field; ii. From any of the major, minors or programs within the College. iii. in addition to the core curriculum; and iv. in addition to the 2000 level courses used to satisfy the foreign language requirement for a Bachelor of Arts degree or to fulfill the requirement of math/reasoning for the BS.
* Please note the following: i. At least 24 of the 30 semester hours in political science must be advanced. ii. Students must complete at least 15 of the required 30 semester hours in political science in residence at the University of Houston. iii. Nine of the 15 resident hours must be advanced. iv. No more than six total semester hours of D in political science will be counted toward degree requirements in the major. v. No more than six semester hours of special problems courses/and or internships may be used to satisfy any major requirements in political science. vi.
